I consider this to be the number one item on my bucket list based on two factors: how badly I want to accomplish this feat as well as the amount of planning, time, and logistics required to make this happen. I am find immense satisfaction in being able to say that I've conquered the Kalalau trail along the Na Pali coast.
As you may know from a previous post, hiking is one of my hobbies, appropriate for the paradise that I am lucky to call home. What made me choose this specific trail versus the many other great treks possible out there were its geographical proximity (does require some air travel, albeit a short 30-40 minute plane ride), relative level of difficulty (11 miles in/out = 22 miles roundtrip), and reputation as one of the world's best hikes by National Geographic and one of America's most dangerous trails by Backpacker Magazine.
Not for the acrophobic
A considerable amount of time and effort went into the planning and execution of this feat, which I can't do justice in one single post. Instead, I plan to break this down into a 4-part blog post to cover all that I'd like to log about the entire process:
I do need to send a HUGE shout-out to my husband for sticking by my side and supporting me in this endeavor. I know that he does not necessarily share the same amount of enthusiasm, and therefore motivation, as I do for this. Yet, he was able to put those aside because he understood how much this meant to me and, thankfully, agreed to all the things I put him through (including giving up sleeping in on weekends to complete full-day hiking training). I'm truly grateful for this validation of his love for me. Thank you for making this belated honeymoon such a special and memorable experience!
